About the Item
Mid-Century cubist oil and acrylic futuristic cityscape on canvas. Signed bottom right, artist unknown.
Highly colourful and well-composed interpretation of a cityscape of the future.
The artist has cleverly positioned geometric fields of colour one over the other to highlight the density of the scene whilst some fields appear transparent giving the effect of clear, glass structures allowing the eye to travel through and also see the buildings reflected in one another. They have also painted the surround of the canvas with a white ground to make the image stand out.
The painting appears otherworldly as it rises up from an already lofty position exaggerated by the field of water in grey at the edge of the chasm in the bottom right corner of the painting.
The buildings become lighter and all the more colourful from left to right as the eye moves towards the sun.
An intriguing painting which invites the viewer to look again and again.
