About the Item
A student of Regnault and of Bertin, Jean-Charles Joseph Rémond exhibited at the Salon from 1814 to 1848. He was awarded his first grand prize in 1821 for "L'enlevement de Proserpine par Pluton", a second place medal in 1819 and another first place in 1827. The artist was made Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1834. Rémond was a master at painting the heroic landscape, traveling France, Italy, Sweden and Sicily for inspiration. Further in to his artistic career, Rémond adopted a less formal attitude towards his painting; he began, more and more, to paint "en plain air" landscapes including views of Dauphiné, Auvergne, Calabre and Sicily. This new method obviously influenced his pupil Rousseau. The Galerie de Minéralogie du Jardin des Plantes contains six of Rémond's landscapes and the Sacristy of Saint Sulpice contains Saint Michel triomphe du diable and Toble et l'Ange.

Hunting Dog with Game
By Giacomo Nani
Located in Atlanta, GA
Famous for his paintings of animals, landscapes and still lifes, Giacomo (sometimes spelled Jacopo) Nani was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. Presumably born in Naples, Nani studied under Gasparo López and Andrea Belvedere whose style Nani often imitated. Nani became famous while working in the court of Charles of Bourbon, future Charles III of Spain (1716 – 1788). His work is featured in the collections of museums worldwide, especially his hometown museum in Naples. An excellent example of his work, this painting is signed in the lower left corner "Giacomo Nani."
