French Impressionist Landscape, On the Banks of the Seine.

About the Item

Early 20th Century romantic oil on canvas of the banks of the river Seine around Paris presented in a carved period gilt frame. In all likelihood painted 'en plein air' in autumn or winter the painting has the feeling of some of the impressionists of the late 19th century. See Claude Monet and his 'Les Bords de la Seine à Argenteuil', Alfred Sisley's views of the Seine from the 1870's or Gustave Caillebotte's paintings from the same period. A limited colour palette creates an interesting mood whilst the meandering river gives perspective to the view.
