About the Item
Oil on Canvas. Genoese school of the eighteenth century.
The country landscape sees a dilapidated structure stand in the center, the ruins of a building through whose gashed walls the masses of white clouds in the background can be seen flowing; in front of it runs a small stream, at which a woman is washing clothes, while her companion sits on boulder not far away, in line with and almost symmetrical with the female figure.
The scene is characterized by a particular luministic search, a dynamism of forms (you can see the directional continuity of the tree canopies with the roof of the ruin and the clouds) and by the theatricality of the figures, elements all that defined the pictorial production of the Genoese Baroque.
Restored and re-tinted, the painting is presented in a styled frame.
