In this fantastical painting animals reign supreme. An enrobed cat observes/directs as a seagull deftly flies through a suspended hoop. Wendy Vaughan seems to infuse her artwork with mystical powers. Backgrounds are layered with symbols and clothing vibrates with magical floating shapes. Her choice of colors are punched up to a level of saturation as to make her work seem otherworldly. Prominent colors in this painting are bright blues in the water, soft oranges in the cat's fur, and purple, gold and pink in the cat's garment. This painting of New York City's Chrysler Building captures a wide swath of Manhattan from an areal view. Using palette knife and brush Albert Vidal manages to combine realist painting with abstraction. Splashes of bright blue, red and green paint graffiti the surface in a Jackson Pollack like effect. An oil painting of a landscape in Sagaponack NY. Lines radiate across the canvas towards the bottom and right side of the canvas in shades of yellow, brown and orange, indicating rows of plants or tilled soil in a field. The field is surrounded by lush thick brush-stokes in shades of green flecked there and there with bright orange. The top fourth of the painting shows the sky, full of points of paint, most under the resin. The white dots above the resin cast shadows below, adding dimension to the piece. The two radiating lines that surround the lower righthand corner are also painted above the resin, one white and one a swirl of primary colors loosely mixed together. Interesting phenomena affect the look of the landscape, whether it is the light effects caused by the reflective particles thrown into the air by a volcano, or the strange twilight caused by a storm suddenly and dramatically changing the angle of the sun’s rays and for a moment, relighting the landscape. In this painting it is a thunderhead cloud forming suddenly above the mountains. This small alla-prima painting is created directly in a single session, on gallery wrapped linen, with 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers.
