Francesc Xavier Valls Subirà (18 September 1923 in Barcelona – 16 September 2006 in Barcelona) was a Spanish painter.
He learned the technique of painting with Charles Collet, a Swiss sculptor, who gave him private lessons. In 1949 he established his residence in Paris, where he moved in the environment of the Spanish painters displaced to the French capital. There he participated in Young Painting (Jeune Peinture) exhibitions with Bernard Buffet, Maurice Boitel, Daniel du Janerand, André Vignoles, Michel-Henry and other well-known painters. Initially interested in cubism, he evolved towards abstract art and ended up moving to figurative art, where he was compared to Francisco de Zurbarán for the precision and simplicity of his lines and the excellence of his still lifes.
His work can be found in several museums in Spain and France, mainly the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum, the Juan Gris Gallery, the Lanzarote Museum of Contemporary Art, the Faro de Cabo Mayor Art Center Museum, Santander and the Font National d' Art Contemporary of Paris.
His awards include Commander of Arts and Letters in France, 1979; the Prix Drouant Critics Award in Paris; the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts obtained in 1993; National Prize for Plastic Arts of the Government of Catalonia. He is the father of Manuel Valls, former Prime Minister of France. He married the Swiss Luisangela Galfetti, sister of the renowned architect Aurelio Galfetti.
Xavier Valls died on September 16, 2006 at his home in Horta, Barcelona, at the age of 82.

Emilio Grau Sala came from a family of artists. He was born in Barcelona in 1911 and his father, a good cartoonist, had been one of the promoters of the "Salon des Humanistes" and made his exhibitions normally in the Parés Hall.
His first works were exhibited at the Salon des Independents, in the years 1930-33.
Grau Sala was essentially a Mediterranean painter, son of post-impressionism and enriched with French painting of the last fifty years.
Grau Sala lived and absorbed all the avant-garde movements that broke through in Paris, but never adhered to any. Creating your personal style. His pictorial lyricism and naturalism superimposed the evotative and sensitive quality of the image to any other concern. In 1953 Grau Sala spends his first summer in Honfleur becoming one of the most active Honflerian painters. Honfleur forms a coast triangle next to Deauville and Trouville, and in that August of 53, Grau Sala pinto is an elegant beach, which at that time met French and European high society.
His works can be found in the Museums of the Villa de Paris, L'Ile de France Museum, at the Château de Sceaux, Honfleur Museum, La Rochelle Museum, Barcelona Museum, Tossa de Mar...

Graner paints this work, Moonlit on the river, during his stay in the United States in the last stage of his artistic life, from 1910 to 1928, in full stage of maturity.
This artwork reflects the constant search of the artist for the effects of light in his work. This persistent concern for light remains throughout his artistic life, which he learned in his Parisian stage under the influence of the painter Frances Platour.
The silver light of the moon and the small lights at distance, which are tiny foci of artificial light, reflecting the river water, forming a chromatic range of greens, ocher and pearly that give a certain mystery to the composition, creating a modern approach to the landscape, by placing the two large trees at the edge of the river in the foreground
Luís Graner y Arrufí, Spanish (1863–1929) was a Catalan painter in the Realistic style.
He was born in Barcelona, and studied at the Escola de la Llotja from 1883, with Antoni Caba (color/composition) and Benet Mercadé (drawing).
During his final year at school, he received a grant to study in Madrid, where he copied and learned from the Old Masters at the Museo del Prado. After that, supported by a fellowship, he moved to Paris and became a member of the Academie des Beaux-Arts. Later, he returned to Barcelona, but continued to travel to cities throughout Europe, including Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf.
Influenced by Richard Wagner's concept of "Gesamtkunstwerk" (Total Work of Art), he was motivated to create his own total art experience and organized the "Sala Mercè" (Mercy Hall) in Barcelona's Rambla District. The project involved contributors from every artistic discipline, including the new field of cinematography. The room was decorated by Antoni Gaudí. Other participants included Adrià Gual, Santiago Rusiñol, Ramon Casas...
