About the Item
Nan Hass Feldman’s “The Hills Are Alive”, is a Fauve Expressionist painting which means a loose, painterly, recognizable subject created with emotional subjective color. This scene is bordered by a painted textured frame on the canvas that represents the houses morphing into the pattern of the border. This landscape painting evolved as the mountains grew into houses that grew into a tree that is almost human. Everything became alive as the painting took on a life of its own. I see it as positive, lively, primitive, and uplifting. It is signed on the front and bottom right and is unframed with painted solid sides.
Nan Hass Feldman has been a full-time artist for over 40 years. Her works, whether landscape or interior, are interpreted through her screen of selective seeing, playful detail, heightened color, and bits of fantasy. Nan’s work is always vibrantly colorful, intricate, enlivening, and upbeat. For Nan, art is about enhancing and interpreting reality to create a more optimistic and joyous world. Nan’s work has been collected in seven countries, holds BFA, MA, and MFA degrees, teaches in three art museums, runs international painting programs, and runs the Artist Loft on a cruise ship. Feldman is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
