About the Item
Nan Hass Feldman’s “View From the Schoolyard” is a large acrylic landscape painting in the happy colors of fall: greens, blues, golds, sienna, and oranges. The artist describes her style as Fauve Expressionist painting, a loose, painterly, recognizable subject created with emotional subjective color. The 48 x 60 x 2 inch painting was created while Feldman was the artist-in-residence at the Worcester Arts Magnet Elementary School working with 500 children over a period of three weeks. Feldman stretched the canvas and painted it in the school while a new class came to work along side of her every 45 minutes! They set up in the doorway to the playground during autumn with a view out over the Worcester, MA hills. At the end of the three weeks, Feldman and her students exhibited their paintings to the faculty and parents! The painting is signed on the front bottom right and is unframed with painted solid sides.
Nan Hass Feldman has been a full-time artist for over 40 years. Her works, whether landscapes or interiors, are interpreted through her screen of selective seeing, playful detail, heightened color, and bits of fantasy. Nan’s work is always vibrantly colorful, intricate, enlivening, and upbeat. For Nan, art is about enhancing and interpreting reality to create a more optimistic and joyous world. Nan’s work has been collected in seven countries, holds BFA, MA, and MFA degrees, teaches in three art museums, runs international painting programs, and runs the Artist Loft on a cruise ship. Feldman is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
