About the Item
Late 20th century abstract Expressionist oil on board by French artist Emmanuelle Bardet. Signed bottom right and dated 1995 and titled "La Cagole" to the reverse. The artist has incorporated the frame as part of the work.
"La cagole" is a term used to describe the extrovert, extravagant nature of a woman who is totally in celebration of her body and full of confidence. This painting fully encapsulates this feeling of confidence.
A wonderfully freely expressive and energetic painting. The figure has great presence and weight and is surrounded with intense colour and is reminiscent of the modern art genre. The artist has incorporated her own frame around the image using a paint/sand mix, very much in the style of the 1950s framing when textured or material frames were often used.
This painting is one of a grouping of three which are also available on 1st Dibs.

Felicité, Abstract Nude, Contemporary, Oil on canvas, Red, Expressionism
By SOPHIE DUMONT
Located in LANGRUNE-SUR-MER, FR
Naked woman painted in a semi-abstract manner in oil and knife on linen canvas.
The material is important provided by a succession of layers on the canvas.
The artist suggests a woman lying on her side
Figurative and abstract mingle in the same canvas. The freedom of the artist in the interpretation of this nude brings a new genre to his work. The material is generous and contrary to his habits, this nude is more abstract. She uses the painting knife to create her flat tints and superimposes the layers to bring strength and vibration.
