About the Item

George Hirsch - He gets his inspiration from the prototype of neo-classic painting for this groovy 1970s brothel. This is a complex figural work with many interlocking figures based on classical composition in art The artist brings the tradition of Ingres, Delecroix and Gerome into modern times in which the figures communicate thru their gestures and explain their profession to a male figure outside of the picture plane, which is identified only by his lower leg and shoe. The fully dressed female and perhaps madame display 7 fingers to refer to perhaps 7 available women. Provenance: Playboy magazine interior illustration, May 1974. Louis K. Meisel Gallery, New York label on verso. Work is elegantly framed. Framed under acrylic. 1/4 inch scratch in along the upper edge. No other visible issues to note. Framed Dimensions 32.25 X 37.25 Inches

Playboy cartoon Illustration, "For Posing, My Terms Are a Dollar an Hour, Room
By Richard Taylor
Located in Miami, FL
Put aside Richard Taylor's dry wit. Look at his masterfully rendered figures and brilliantly constructed compositions based on a two-point perspective. Clearly, he is an underrated and overlooked talent in the class of Charles Addams. Above all, Taylor, with his heavely-lidded-eyed figure, has a style of his own. An artist who has an instantly recognized style - unique to him/her is a rarity in today's artworld of derivative artists. Artist Painting Nude Women in Artist Studio - Perhaps Playboy Cartoon
By Richard Taylor
Located in Miami, FL
"Harry has no interest in mundane pleasures." Enter the mind of a mid-century American/ Canadian Artist. The theme of Artist and Model has been used for centuries but Richard Taylor ( R. Taylor ) clearly has his own humorous style. The Taylor girl is easily recognizable with oversized heavy-lidded oval eyes and curvaceous body shapes. Taylor is in the Charles Addams...

A Death of Sardanapalus
Located in New Orleans, LA
A Death of Sardanapalus is a revisionist history in which I reimagine the fall of the last Assyrian king, famously portrayed by Delacroix. In my reimagining, far from being passive victims, Sardanapalus’s concubines are about to perform a coup de gras, without him suspecting a thing. Full title is 'A Coalition of Willing Goddesses Topples Mars, Commonly Known as A Death of Sardanapalus' In my current work, The Revisionist Histories, I am writing letters to art history, literature, and mythology in an attempt to redress past wrongs, re-draw archetypes, and reflect the social changes that have reshaped our society over the past century. As part of this agenda, I explore the evolution of gender norms, power dynamics, and representation within Western visual culture and what this implies for the negotiation between pleasure, justice, and our culturally specific discourse on beauty. Oddly enough, this work is inspired in part by my pre-teen daughters’ growing musical interests which exposed me for the first time to the world of music videos (I had a sheltered childhood as my parents couldn’t afford cable TV). My daughters are primarily interested in pop divas...
