About the Item
This is an interesting portrait of a military person related to the Prinz Heinrich Kaserne complex in Germany after World War II. Apparently there were internal conflicts happening after the partitioning of Germany between East and West. To monitor these, the United States established numerous bases, one at this facility in Lenggries in extreme Southern Bavaria.
This handsome portrait is titled verso “Joe” and is signed Wade and dated 1954. From the information card on the backside, the artist is Edward J. Wade, a corporal in the USAREUR QM School - 7717th US Army.
The portrait is oil on German canvas and measures 19 1/2” x 23 1/2”. It is in good condition with no major issue to report. It retains its original silvered wood frame with overall dimensions 23” x 27” approximately. The portrait is well done and would fit into any post World War II collection of military items. It fortunately includes pertinent military information and identification on the attached card that document this time and place in American involvement in post World War II Germany and Europe.
