Portrait of a gentleman, 19th century portrait of a man, antique portrait man

1849

About the Item

A classic romantic portrait of a man on stretched canvas in a rectangular frame with an oval setting. This painting was found in France but is likely to be of German origin. A gentleman, possibly younger than he appears, looks towards the artist. He has a gentle face and a slight smile. It's a large and attractive painting by a good artist. Size including frame: 23.5ins x 28.5ins or 60cms x 72cms approx. Signed: No, but there is a date on the back of 1849 and on the original stretching frame an inscription Oppenheim piux Condition report: This painting appears to be on the original stretching frame. The oval insert on the frame looks to be original and is quite fragile with missing moulding and small areas of paint. The outer frame is more recent, vintage and in acceptable vintage condition. Expect missing paint indentations, small renovations. The painting is in good clean condition. There is stable craquelure throughout which adds interest and age. Minor restorations. This painting is sent track and trace and fully insured with COLISSIMO
