Robert Gemmell HUTCHISON Picture Size: 17 x 14" (42.5 x 35cm) Outside Frame Size: 24 x 21" (60 x 52.5cm) An original antique oil painting on canvas by the highly regarded Robert Gemmell Hutchison. An wonderful example of Robert Gemmell Hutchison's work. A charming and warm painting with a gentleman showing two young boys how to play a Jews harp in an interior. The profile of the boy is exquisitely drawn illustrating the attentiveness that is captivating him by the demonstration of this uncommon instrument. 1860 – 1936 Landscape, figure and portrait painter, he studied at the Board of Manufacturers School of Art in Edinburgh. He became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1896 the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1901, an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in1901 and a full member in 1911. In 1895 he also be came a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours.
