Willett has portrayed this charming scene in a most intimate, yet energetic way, and has packed much feeling into this miniature work. It is almost as if we are there in the wintry night, bringing a beautiful feeling of nostalgia. Christopher is known for capturing the beauty and simplicity of an earlier time of the 20th Century; old New York, families working together, villages and farms and friends taking walks together. Many are depicted in recognizable historical settings and this piece is an excellent example of this as he captures a snow-filled historic setting of Buckingham County with the calm, endearing charm of a snowy evening and wood burning fireplaces. Christopher engages his audience with the quick use of brushwork and great attention to picking up the energy passionately of his subjects. Willett, a painter with a family lineage dating back to ancestors arriving in this country aboard the Mayflower and Victory, settling Plymouth. Some recorded family history finds a Willett ancestor, Augustine Willett whom was a Captain of historic repute under the command of General Washington. Additionally, in more recent history, Willett artisans became renowned for their designs and beautiful works in stained glass that adorn the Bryn Athen Cathedral- for the Pit Cairn estate.
Willett, is also a descendant of the renowned painter Edward Hicks, known for his work entitled Peaceable Kingdom, and whom after the Hicks Art Center of Bucks County Community College was named. From early childhood to the present, Christopher has carried a natural talent on the tradition in the arts, and mainly working as a full time painter in the New Hope, Bucks County using the mediums of oil on board or canvas, and watercolor in an Impressionist style.
While reviewing Christopher’s portfolio of over 3 decades, it can be appreciated a gradual evolution and development of his own unique method and artistic technique. By portraying the landscapes and daily lives of the people that live and have lived in his native local region, spanning from Bucks County, New Hope, Lambertville, New Jersey, French Town, and Point Pleasant, Willett captures the beauty and simplicity of an earlier time. With a use a color pallet of rich warm earth tones; consistent with the traditional Bucks County Impressionist style, he landscapes include elements like horse drawn carriages, families working together, villages and farms, and friends taking walks together- and many are depicted in recognizable historic settings
Christopher attended the Hartnell University in California, and Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art. He served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years aboard in an aircraft carrier and is a decorated veteran. His recent work has been compared to Edward Redfield both in subject and style. Earlier works by Willett are reminiscent of the photographic representational influence of his revered friend and mentor Andrew Wyeth. Today, Willett’s pieces, are still the most popular subject matter of local contemporary impressionists. His paintings are found in several corporate collections, and in many private collections, along many works being exhibited at shows and galleries like Phillips Mill Art Show, Village Artworks, Lahaska, PA Riverside Fine Art, Lambertville, NJ Gallery Three, Doylestown, PA.

"Marshland Cottages in Autumn" American Mid Century Oil Painting Landscape
Located in New York, NY
A wonderful depiction of cottages in a Marshland with a mountain view landscape in the country side. For this beautiful depiction of the mountains, we find distinct elements that are unique to the earlier works of Marie Berger. Among other things, Marie Berger's art is notable for its surrealist elements. In Still Life with Figure in a Desert Landscape, for example, she combines the seemingly incongruous images of a foreground still life composition with the almost infinite lines of perspective of the desert environment. The final result is one of provoking imagery and emotion. With joyful colors, this piece is filled with bold brushstrokes and impressive marks. Comes housed in a beautiful wood frame. Ready to hang with wire on verso.
Art measures 18 x 24 inches
Framed measures 23 x 29 inches
A native of Fort Worth, Marie Friedman Berger was born March 9, 1913, the daughter of Will and Minnie Cohen Friedman. She was a graduate of Central High School, now R. L. Paschal, and attended Washington University, St. Louis School of Art. Marie married Jack Henry Berger on June 21, 1939, in Dallas; a marriage that lasted nearly 61 years. Mr. Berger died in 2000. Marie was an internationally renowned artist. Her works have been published by the Metropolitan Art Gallery of New York and shown as one of America's only artists in Italian art galleries. She was a recipient of the annual Benedictine Art Award. For many years she worked along side her late husband operating the Fashion Furniture Gallery on Camp Bowie Blvd.
Marie Berger was a longtime member of Beth-El Congregation and she was also a full member of the Texas Fine Arts Association (Regional Director) and the Texas Watercolor Society. Among the awards presented to her for her art were the Benedictine Award, New York, and the Texas Fine Arts Jurors Award. She also owned and managed the Marie Berger Gallery, Fort Worth, which promoted the works of many rising American and Mexican artists during the 1950's and 1960's. She studied at Texas Christian University, and then at the St. Louis School of Fine Art and at Washington University, Missouri, which was founded as the Saint Louis School and Museum of Fine Arts in 1879 as part of Washington University in St. Louis. Her most common media is the use of oil, acrylic, watercolor, etching, lithograph, collagraph. During her successful career, she exhibited internationally at such institutions as the Bateau Lavar Gallery, Rome, the Rassagna permanente d'arte contemporanea, Veterbo, Italy, the Laguna Gloria, Austin, Texas, the Oklahoma Art...

William Fisher (1891 - 1985)
William Fisher was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1891. He studied at the Brooklyn Institute of Art and Science and at Pratt Institute. Following service as an ambulance driver in WWI, he remained in Europe after the war and studied painting in Rome, Italy for one year. Upon his return from Rome, to New Jersey, he pursued his painting and began to teach small art classes.
In the 1920's Fisher became a successful illustrator. His work appeared in Saturday Evening Post, Mc Calls, Harpers and other popular magazines. He later did pen and ink sketches for the Villager, a weekly Greenwich Village newspaper. Microfilmed pages of the Villager are preserved in New York University's Washington Square Library. His sketches also appeared on the cover of the Gotham Guide, which was sold Fridays at news stands in Manhattan.
In partnership with Margaret Kilburn, an artist and crafts person, Fisher opened an art gallery and school at 33 West 8th St in NYC during the 1930s. They also opened a summer art gallery and school in 1949 in Kennebunkport, Maine, which ran for many years, and, after the NY gallery closed (around 1952), they made a full time commitment to living and working in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Fisher was the recipient of over 100 awards. His work was widely exhibited in Philadelphia, Pa., Montclair, Trenton, and Newark, NJ, the Currier Gallery in New Hampshire and the Brick Store Museum in Kennebunk, Maine.
William Fisher and Margaret Kilburn were familiar and beloved figures in Kennebunkport. They taught generations of local children, and they participated in numerous exhibits with other artists, both in the Kennebunkport area and throughout Maine. Mr Fisher always insisted on marching in the local Memorial Day parade, until he was well in his 90's, because he didn't want to ride in a car provided for older veterans. Many homes in the Kennebunks have his works, including members of the Bush family, and they were purchased by numerous out of state and Canadian summer visitors. There are several examples of his works in the Kennebunkport Town Offices and in local churches.
Fisher loved to paint "big" canvases, usually local Maine scenes...
