Ann Getsinger
Leaping Peony (Still Life Painting with Pink Flower and Country Landscape)

2019

About the Item

Photo-realist still life painting of a pink peony against a country landscape with blue mountains and a blue, moon-lit sky just after sunset "Leaping Peony" by Ann Getsinger, 2019 Oil on Linen, 48 x 36 inches Silver floater frame Signed, bottom right Ann Getsinger’s oil paintings have been described as ‘realism with a twist.’ Real objects are placed in locations drawn from memory and imagination, in locations and circumstances which materialize as the work unfolds, forming paintings which combine careful planning with free-falling. Her traditional, realist approach to painting this still life of bones and blooms is evident with her careful attention to light and shadow. The result almost echoes that of the great Masters! The artists powerful connection to place is evident as most of the backgrounds show either the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts or the mid-coast area of Maine, her favorite places to live and paint. Classically trained in traditional realist techniques, the artist applies those skills to reflect both visible and invisible worlds. Her many visual art influences include the work of Magritte and other surrealists, N.C., Andrew, and Jamie Wyeth, Julio Larraz, and Gregory Gillespie. • Lotus No. 65 (Photo-Realist Still Life Painting of Pink & Green Lotus Flowers)
    By Frank DePietro
    Located in Hudson, NY
Photorealist still life painting on canvas of a light pink lotus flower with brown lotus pods and green petals against a light grey background "Lotus Number Sixty-Five" oil on canvas, 48 x 48 inches, 49 x 49 x 2 inches with a dark wood frame Signed lower left Excellent condition and ready to hang Painted with the exactness of a still life photograph, this hard edge realist painting by artist Frank DiPietro features a light pink lotus flower, with lush green leaves on a pale grey background. Inspired by close observations of the natural world and encounters with still moments that give us pause. Lines, shapes and colors encountered in nature, reveal the cycles of decay and regeneration that are life’s constant state of change. The work has a quiet, meditative quality. The subject is portrayed in a manner true to their existence in a specific time and place and selected based on considerations of visual relationships to formal elements of painting. Aspects of photo realism, hard edge and color field techniques are utilized to isolate the uniqueness of the subject’s detail, as well as emphasize flatness and illusion of depth within the two-dimensional space of the painting. About the artist: Frank DiPietro was born and raised in Scranton PA. He received a Bachelor of Art from Bloomsburg University in 1997, majoring in both Painting and Ceramics with a minor in Art History. In 2000 he earned a degree in Art Education from Moore College of Art and Design while continuing his studies in painting. Frank lived in Philadelphia for twelve years painting and teaching at several museums, art centers and schools in the region. In 2010 he and his family moved to Chester County PA, where he currently resides. Frank currently teaches painting classes and workshops at the Delaware Art Museum and Longwood Gardens...

  • Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas)
    By Dan Rupe
    Located in Hudson, NY
Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas) by Dan Rupe 22 x 22 inches oil on linen canvas Signed on reverse Artist Dan Rupe paints only from life, his composition ruled by his intuitive sense of formal order. He begins covering his canvas with a deep crimson wash. This ground gives his brilliant pure color , applied with an expressive, direct gesture, an electric charge. No matter how often or how long one looks at a Rupe painting, it is always the present tense. The tone of his palette, the freshness and clarity of primary colors, reflects an optimistic attitude, an intrinsic love of life. In this work, three vibrant peach colored lilies open their blooms amidst bright green grasses. Rupe succeeds at capturing the immediacy of his subjects be it flowers, buildings or people. Read below for an amusing profile written about the artist in 2003: You‘ve likely seen him on the streets of Hudson, seated before his canvas in a multi-colored paint daubed t-shirt and shorts, his straw hat providing shade for all but his tanned forearms and knees. His splattered Technicolor Walkman tape player...
