Anne Lyman Powers was born in 1922, and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. An early interest in the arts led her to study at various institutions, including the Winsor School, Vassar College, Columbia University, and the progressive School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where she studied with Boston Expressionist Karl Zerbe. Over her 70 year career as an artist, Powers' subject matter has ranged from politically charged material to bucolic landscapes.
