French Art Deco still life of a vase of tulips in an interior by Auguste Mallard. The painting is signed bottom right and presented in a period patinated wood frame. A colourful and strong painting of an interior view, a table with books and as the centre piece a beautiful blue ceramic vase with twisted handles holding a magnificent bouquet of brightly coloured tulips. Mallard has captured the abandon of the blooms in the vase, the way tulips twist and furl raising and lowering their beautiful colourful petals. The colours of the flowers really stand out against the more muted tones of the background, curtain and table. A very elegant and stylish painting. This painting has the feel of some of the still life works from the same period by Tamara de Lempicka who was a contemporary of Mallard painting...
