Wonderful example of Houston Artist David Adickes's early work. This heavily textured still life features 2 apples and 3 bottles. Most likely this work was framed at Dubose Gallery or James Bute Gallery in Houston with silver outer and black inner matting. Hard to find! Signed at the bottom.

Artist Biography: Born (1927) and raised in Huntsville, TX, David Adickes is an artist whose art and heart are closely aligned with Paris, France. After studying art at the Atelier F. Leger in the late 40s, Adickes burst onto the art scene in Houston and elsewhere in the early 50s and has been a prominent member of Houston’s art community ever since. While his most visible works are his giant sculptures, from the Virtuoso in downtown Houston to the 76-foot Sam Houston in his hometown of Huntsville, David Adickes has for decades produced paintings that have been acclaimed in numerous art exhibitions and galleries, both in the United States and internationally. Moreover, his paintings continue to delight collectors with a distinct blend of classic style, delightful palette, and a touch of whimsy.

David Adickes was born in Huntsville, Texas in 1927 and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1943. Nearing the end of World War II, at age 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force and regularly traveled to France. “I always liked art and was always drawing in the margins of my book,” Adickes said. “But being in Paris where there are galleries and museums on every corner — as just a small town kid from Huntsville, Texas — that was my turning point.” After completing his service, Adickes returned to Huntsville and earned his bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University. He then studied art with artist Fernand Leger in France for two years before moving to Houston to open his own art school.

Kevin Weckbach was born in Denver, CO in 1970. He studied illustration at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design from 1990-92 and studied under the artist Quang Ho at the Art Students League of Denver from 1992-96.
