Post Impressionist oil on canvas still life painting by the New York artist, Frances Joan Kruszewski. Initialed bottom right and dated 1942. In very good original condition; no restorations. Original gesso over wood gold leaf frame in fine condition. Overall 21.25 by 17.25 inches. Provenance: Port Jervis, New York estate. A painter of post-impressionist landscapes and still lifes, Kruszewski was born on August 30, 1921 in New York City and died in Locust Valley, New York on July 18, 1971. Education: Studied under Edgar Whitney, AWS; Marion B. Brown, AWS; Paul Puzinas, Anthony Toney; New School for Social Research; Art Student's League in 1960s; Barbara Vassilieff; George H. Tschamber; Robert Brackman; exhibited with Ruth Baderian, Edna L. Kessler, John Rogers (1906-1985) Exhibited: American Artists Professional League; Malverne Artists of Malverne, New York (former President of the group); Hudson Valley Art Association, Nassau County Art Association; Bethpage State Park; Pen and ink drawing exhibited at Metropolitan Museum of Art.

A fine impressionist floral still life by American artist Humbert Howard (1905-1990). Howard was born in Philadelphia and considered an important figure among contemporary African-American artists. He was educated at Howard University in Washington, D.C., the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and the Barnes Foundation in Merion, Pennsylvania.
