He graduated from the Sverdlovsk Art College in 1962, and the Mukhins Leningrad Higher School of Art and Industry, painting faculty, in 1968. He is a member of the Artists Union of Russia, a member of the UNESCO International Federation of Artists. He is one of the greatest masters of modern art. Valery Mishin is engaged in easel graphics, book graphics, and printing, paintings, objects, installations, ex-libris. He has participated in more than 300 exhibitions in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian cities, as well as abroad - in Warsaw, Ghent, London, Mainz, Mexico City, Paris, Stockholm, etc. since 1966. More than 20 of them are one-man exhibitions including the one in the Central Exhibition Hall "Manege". He is a prize-winner of several foreign exhibitions.
