Gorgeous and vibrant mid century spring garden still life of a vase of pink peonies with a pair of garden gloves in the foreground by listed artist Helen Gleiforst (American, 1903-1997). Signed "H. Enoch Gleiforst" lower left. Unframed. Image, 30"H x 25"W.
Born in Crete, Nebraska. Helen Gleiforst was born in Nebraska but soon moved to Oregon where she studied at the University of Oregon. She then settled in Beverly Hills where she began to paint. Her teachers included Nicolai Fechin, George Melcher, John Hubbard Rich and Nell Walker Warner for Still Life studies. Gleiforst primarily painted plein air, as well as landscapes and florals. During her lifetime, Helen Gleiforst frequently exhibited her artwork including one-person shows at Stanford University, Ebell Society of the Federated Women’s Clubs, the Beverly Hills and Westwood Women's Clubs, and at Clearwater Junior High School. In 2006, her work was featured among top California plein-aire painters in Santa Barbara in the Sullivan Goss Gallery exhibition titled “Early California.”
