About the Item
This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online.
In Glass and Lemons, Irina Trushkova presents a luminous arrangement of citrus fruits and a gracefully curved glass carafe, brought to life through the refined techniques of realism. The transparent vessel, filled with water and thin lemon slices, reflects the surrounding light, creating a mesmerizing interplay of transparency and opacity. Nearby, a small bowl cradles whole lemons, their sunlit surfaces contrasting beautifully with the deep, shadowed background. A single lemon wedge, along with a delicate antique knife, rests on the wooden table, adding a touch of storytelling to the composition.
The painting’s color palette leans toward warm golden hues, complemented by the rich browns of the table and the deep black of the background. Trushkova’s masterful use of chiaroscuro heightens the drama, emphasizing the glowing yellows against the enveloping darkness. The smooth surfaces of the glass and fruit contrast with the subtly weathered wood, making each texture distinct and incredibly lifelike.
Painted with oil on canvas, Glass and Lemons is a stunning example of realism in still life, showcasing Trushkova’s ability to capture both the physical and atmospheric qualities of her subjects. The painting is signed and ready to display. Currently available for purchase at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea and online.
Artist Biography:
Irina Trushkova, a gifted artist, was born in Russia and began her artistic journey by enrolling in the Faculty of Art at Krasnodar State University in 1987. Since 1991, she has been devoted to her professional career in painting, establishing herself as a prominent figure in the world of contemporary art. With a portfolio spanning over 30 exhibitions and art fairs, Irina’s masterful works have found their way into private collections in various corners of the world. From Russia and Germany to Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, the United States, France, Belgium, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, her art has resonated with art enthusiasts, collectors, and connoisseurs alike. Irina Trushkova’s exceptional talent was acknowledged when she became a member of the Union of Russian Artists in 1995. Her commitment to the arts and her significant contributions were further honored through the Culture and Art scholarship awarded by the Krasnodar Region Administration. In 2004, Irina embarked on a new chapter in her artistic journey by relocating to Belgium. It is there that she continues to reside and create, drawing inspiration from the diverse cultural tapestry that surrounds her. Irina’s artistic focus centers on the genre of still life compositions, where she employs oil as her chosen medium. Her artistic philosophy is deeply rooted in the act of observing life itself. She seeks to capture the delicate interplay of light as it gracefully reveals the objects and their surroundings, imbuing her works with a profound sense of serenity and tranquility. The pursuit of balance and harmony within her compositions is of paramount importance to Irina. She often selects commonplace objects as her subjects – jugs, fruits, bowls, or flowers. Through her art, she instills a sense of wonderment and a visual narrative, encouraging viewers to rediscover the enchanting beauty found in everyday items and experiences. Irina Trushkova’s oeuvre invites the viewer to rekindle their appreciation for the world that surrounds them, urging them to uncover the fleeting yet profoundly precious moments in life. Her art represents an unyielding commitment to seizing the incredible beauty inherent in life’s fleeting moments, and it stands as her deepest vocation. Her art is distinctly influenced by the traditional Dutch 17th-century painting, celebrated for its nuanced treatment of light, shadow, and color. Irina primarily employs a multi-layered technique, despite its intricate and time-consuming nature, to accentuate light effects, various textures, and, perhaps most notably, transparency. Irina Trushkova’s work not only pays homage to art history but also transcends time to resonate with contemporary audiences, making her a truly remarkable artist in the realm of still life painting.

Irina Trushkova was born in Russia and graduated from the Faculty of Art of Krasnodar State University in 1987. She has been professionally engaged in painting since 1991. Having participated in more than 30 exhibitions and Art Fair her works are now represented in private collections in Russia, Germany, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, the USA, France, Belgium, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Trushkova became a member of the Union of Russian Artists in 1995 and a laureate of the Culture and Art Scholarship of the Krasnodar Region Administration. Since 2004 she has lived and worked in Belgium. The traditional Dutch 17th-century painting inspired Trushkova because of its delicate and balanced approach to light, shadow, and color nuances. She mainly uses a multi-layered technique. Even if their process is slow and complex, it makes it possible to accentuate light effects, various textures, and, last but not least, transparency. "I paint still life compositions in oil. Observing solely from life I aspire to capture the movement of light as it reveals both the object and the surroundings, creating a sense of serenity and quiet. The search for balance and harmony in the composition is vitally important for me. The objects in my still life can be often very usual and simple: jugs, fruits, bowls, or flowers. It's wonderment about things and visual information that l want to strengthen in my works. I invite the viewer to re-enchant in the world around us, to discover the short but really precious moments of life. Seizing the incredible beauty of life is my deepest vocation."
