Still Life with Silver Cup / minimal, serene oil on canvas
Located in Burlingame, CA
Minimal and serene silver cup with cobalt blue reflective orb adorn this contemplative, calm, zen like diptych - where two canvases are attached to create
single work of art - from American realist painter Willard Dixon, who says "the charm of Still Life painting for the artist lies in the ability to manipulate ones subject matter and in the intimate, direct nature of the painting process. It is very much a studio-centric activity, complete and self-sufficient. The objects that one works with do seem to take on a life of their own, both by themselves and in their affinity for one another. They have a history, a patina, they may be new, or world-weary." Silver, blue and shades of grey.
Best known for American landscape, captivating the spirit of the West, with its grand and humble spirit, Willard Dixon also paints slill lifes, using objects from his own collection of bottles, dominoes, dice, cups and saucers. His work can be found in numerous distinctive private and public collections, as well as the San Francisco Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.
'Still Life with Silver Cup' is a minimalistic, meditative painting that will hold a viewer and offer an open place to free the mind and spirit.
