About the Item

This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. In On The Rocks, Sarah Eden channels elegance and restraint through a single crystal glass of whisky. Painted in oil on board with an extraordinary level of detail, the glass catches and refracts the warm amber of the drink and the cool transparency of melting ice. This hyperrealist work is not simply about accuracy—it’s about atmosphere, light, and the evocative simplicity of ritual. Eden’s meticulous brushwork brings the intricacies of cut glass to life, while the amber liquid glows with internal light, suggesting depth, weight, and warmth. The reflections along the surface subtly ground the glass, but the dark void behind it isolates the subject, lending it a quiet drama. There’s an intimacy in this composition—a quiet pause at the end of a day, distilled into pigment and shadow. The palette moves from deep mahogany and golden honey through to cooler silvers and charcoal greys. These tones create a sense of richness and stillness, while Eden’s flawless rendering ensures every glint, refraction, and droplet feels real enough to taste. On The Rocks is a tribute to refined pleasure and the artistry of restraint. Artist Biography: Sarah Eden has always had a deep passion for art, but her path to becoming a professional artist was unconventional. After earning a degree in languages, she pursued a career in sales and marketing, soon realizing that her true calling lay elsewhere. Art had been an integral part of her life since studying A-Level Art in school, and with the unwavering support of her family, she took a leap of faith into the art world over a decade ago—and has never looked back. Initially exploring figurative art, Sarah quickly established herself as a full-time animal portrait artist. In 2014, she officially registered as self-employed, dedicating herself entirely to painting. Her workweek is filled with enthusiasm and excitement, as she finds immense joy in bringing her subjects to life on canvas. As a realist painter, Sarah specializes in highly detailed oil paintings of wildlife, capturing everything from native British species to exotic animals. Based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, she draws inspiration from the diverse wildlife in her surroundings. Her work is driven by a deep appreciation for the individuality and beauty of animals—particularly those that are often overlooked. Over the past ten years, her commissions have reached collectors worldwide, with recent works finding homes in Milan, New York, and Tasmania. While private commissions remain an important part of her practice, she now focuses on developing her own collections, highlighting unconventional subjects that deserve recognition. Recently, Sarah has expanded her artistic practice to include still-life painting, which she refers to as "fruit portraits." The rich colors and textures offer a refreshing contrast to the fur and feathers of her wildlife subjects. Constantly evolving as an artist, she embraces new challenges to refine her craft. Through her highly detailed, lifelike paintings, Sarah Eden celebrates the beauty and complexity of the natural world in all its forms. My ‘fruit portraits’, as I like to refer to them, are rendered in a dramatic chiaroscuro style, to draw the viewer’s eye into the heart of the composition creating a sense of depth, volume and tactile presence. My use of chiaroscuro is not merely a technical device, but a means of imbuing my subjects with a sense of mystery and allure. By carefully balancing light and shadow, I strive to create a sense of drama and emotional resonance, inviting the viewer to contemplate the beauty of the everyday and to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. By combining technical skill with a deep sense of wonder and curiosity, I strive to create still life paintings that are both beautiful and thought-provoking, inspiring the viewer to see the mundane, in a new and unexpected way.”- Sarah Eden

Ken Orton "Camwal", Bottle Still Life Photorealistic Oil Painting on Canvas
By Ken Orton
Located in Saratoga Springs, NY
Ken Orton's "Camwal" is a 54x36 original oil painting on canvas. This painting depicts a still life setting featuring multiple antique bottles. The bottles range in size, color and shape, the most prominent of is the middle Camwal bottle. The window in the background adds depth and interest to the composition, and the rusty orange bottle color compliments the subtle soft blues and greens within the clear glass. The artist chooses to paint larger than life still lives, cropping in closely for more impact. Every detail from the reflections on the table, to the illusion of the raised letters on the bottles, is painted masterfully. About the artist: Ken Orton has dedicated his life to painting. His childhood was spent drawing the urban, industrial surroundings of Birmingham, England. At the Birmingham and then Manchester Colleges of Art he studied Art Education and after six years teaching in England accepted an offer to head the arts program at the Joan Miro Centro de Arte of the Baleares International School in Mallorca, Spain. For the next twenty years he would introduce the concepts of pictorial composition, color theory and draftsmanship to his students. Many of these students would go on to achieve great success in the many branches of the arts, architecture and music and remain close friends with their teacher to this day. An integral part of Orton’s perspective training for his students was the study of the ellipse. He often used glass cylinders to demonstrate how the perceived ellipses generated by variations in the circle's relationship to the eye-line could be used as a powerful tool in creating the appearance of a third dimension on a two dimensional surface. Later, after he had moved to America in 1999, he discovered a treasure trove of antique mason jars...
