Cherry Blossom Dream by Sophia Chalklen is an original painting. One day I was sat looking up at a cherry blossom tree and thought how beautiful it looked from that angle. I took a photo and had to paint it. The beautiful light breaking through made it even more beautiful. I have used various metallic pink leaf as well as 24ct gold leaf on the trunk to create that extra sparkle and magic as the light hits the painting. Due to the nature of the metallic leaf it looks different in different light. Contemporary artist Sophia Chalklen sold online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Sophia has always had a strong passion for Art ever since she was a child. Sophia studied at Winchester school of Art where she completed a BA specialising in Textile design. After achieving her BA she went on to become a Freelance Printed Textile designer for a small company in London. Shortly after that she managed to get a job as a Fine Jewellery Designer for the Crown Jewellers, Asprey and Garrard Bond St. Sophia became a specialist in designing high end Jewellery, accessories, and ornaments for English and Middle Eastern Royalty and the Elite. She also designed a great variety of items including rings, Jewellery Suites, watches, cufflinks, Jewel incrusted clocks, tiaras and precious ornaments. Her eye for detail leant well to her career in jewellery design and she became an expert in her field. Peter Loftus was born in 1948, in Washington DC. He received a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, in 1971. In 1974, Loftus earned an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. Drawn by the glorious California light, Loftus moved to Santa Cruz in 1975. He has lived and painted there ever since. Loftus taught at both University of California at Santa Cruz and Cabrillo Community College between 1975, through the present (at UCSC). He taught Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Drawing, and Painting, in both oil and aqueous media. Romona Youngquist was born on January 11, 1960 in Yuba City, California, but grew up in Eastern Oklahoma. Youngquist essentially started out in life as a child of nature, spending her time exploring the woods with her dog and collecting critters. While exploring, she also studied the design and color of nature. She recalls many times standing in a field just staring in fascination at the values of the deciduous trees against a dark Oklahoma sky before a storm then rushing home to draw what she had seen. Technically self-taught, she thinks of nature as her real teacher. In 1994 she was awarded a grant from the Alaska State Council for the Arts to study with Oregon landscape painter Michael Gibbons. In the late 1990’s she studied with Michael Workman, a leading Landscape painter from Utah. She has taken their valuable lessons and strengthened her own individual style.
