About the Item

Synesthesia - RE-417HZ, 2017 Archival pigment print on Aluminum 40 x 60 inches Edition of 5 The synesthesia phenomenon is traditionally said to be the confusion of senses; like hearing color or feeling pain from sound. Garner has synthesized dyes, influenced by color psychology, with symbolic flora to elucidate this phenomenon in viewers through a six part series exploring the Solfeggio frequencies, an ancient six-tone musical scale speculated to have healing properties. Ashley G Garner is a conceptual photographer and filmmaker residing in New York City. Raised in the foothills of North Carolina an adoration with fantasy and the sublime effect were bred. Coupled with degrees in Photography and Art History from Florida International University in Miami, FL and a background as a writer she cultivated a balance between structured forms and poetic rebellion. Working across multiple artistic platforms which include still life, editorial, figurative, video and self-portrait’s Ashley’s work dances with many conversations that stretch from the social to the metaphysical world with themes of duality, mythology, and transcendental symbolism.

Surprise - underwater photograph from series REFLECTIONS - acrylic 20x36
By Alex Sher
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
“Surprise” is a part of Alex Sher’s popular series REFLECTIONS - underwater photographs that could be almost mistaken for abstract paintings as they bring up recollections of masterpieces by Picasso, Dali or Gustav Klimt. In fact REFLECTIONS are straight photographic capturing of the water’s surface from below, with a submerged underwater camera. The photographs freeze natural momentary reflections in water surface - the unique kaleidoscopic fragmentations of human body into nearly unrecognizable forms. It is these bold accents of color, mesmerizing textures, dramatic lines, and distinctive distortions that make Sher’s works unique highly advisable masterpieces. The strength and patience of the feminine form resound in the echoing smile of Alex Sher’s disciplined model in his underwater photograph “Surprise”. The female body becomes almost unrecognizable as the nude colors of the skin, the vivacious reds of the garments, and the tranquil blues of the water morph and fuse into one another. Hearkening back to the surrealist paintings of masters...
