"Shadow Legacy no. 18" by Brenda Biondo is an abstract, deconstructive take on traditional landscape photography, featuring gray floral shadows on a circular piece of paper resting atop white snow. The result is a dynamic, atmospheric print that reflects the natural landscape through unexpected means. This minimalist work comes from the artist's brand new environmentally-minded series "A Legacy of Shadows," to debut at Foto Relevance in November 2020.
This work is printed via a process of dye sublimation on aluminum, and is also available as an archival inkjet print. Please contact gallery to discuss.
Photographed in various locations in the artist's home state of Colorado, Biondo's new images take interest in the multitude of ways in which naturally blue, high-altitude shadows intermingle with fallen snow and paper interventions. Expanding upon the artist's experimentation with light, these deconstructed landscapes visualize the artist's concern "with the fracturing of nature and the poignancy of acknowledging beauty in a time of destruction."
Biondo's work has been exhibited in shows throughout the country and published in numerous print and online publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Denver Post and Lenscratch. Her photographs are in the collections of the Library of Congress, the Museum of Photographic Arts, the San Diego Museum of Art and the collections of numerous corporations and individuals. A solo exhibit of her work opened at the San Diego Museum of Art in July 2017. Her book of photographs, Once Upon a Playground, was published by the University Press of New England in 2014 and is now the subject of a five-year traveling exhibit organized by ExhibitsUSA.
