Brett Weston
Airplane Aviation Abstraction

1935

About the Item

This is a photogravure printed in the 1930's for a publication that showcased the best photographers of that year. They submitted a work they wanted featured to represent them and Brett Weston submitted this abstraction of an airplane. Photogravure is a way to print a photograph for high quality results when printing numerous numbers - such as for Camera Work, Photographie and these publications at that time. It is not signed as it has been taken out of one of those publications. It has a vintage feel, its printed on paper and underneath the mat it probably retains a spiral perforated edge on one side. These publications and photogravures are collected and its a great way to have a vintage feeling image by one of the great photographers - such as Weston. *Can be accompanied by a great article about photogravure written by Vivian Raynor who was a critic for the New York Times for many years. Image inside the mat is 7 x 8 inches - listed dimensions are the framed dimensions. Mat and frame are good quality - frame has some slight age to it. Regular glass in the piece. Brett Weston is a marvelous photographer and abstractionist - similar to his father the great Edward Weston - wonderful information readily available on the internet about both their careers and subjects.
