Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966, he is now an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer and Europe’s best selling wildlife photographer. "I am often asked why I almost always print in black and white and this image offers many of the answers. Andy Warhol said that his favourite colour is black and his other favourite colour is white. Matisse said that it took him 40 years to work out that the most powerful colour is black. In between black and white there is a huge tonal range - it is rather like a piano with 88 keys. This image in Antarctica employs all that piano. We live our lives in colour, so a departure from literal reality is refreshing and allows for an abstraction - less perhaps is more. The lines and curves also allow for this simple family unit to be an art work rather than a National Geographic image. There is a peaceful serenity to the story - and one that resonates with all that relish the simple joy of togetherness." -David Yarrow

"I took this early on in the trip and I kept referring back to it because it has character and the lead players are pin sharp. Penguins head on offer a different perspective and a ground position - as always - adds stature to the subject. There was no depth of field available that day and the vast majority of the images were cluttered and messy – except, thankfully, this one. They look a cohesive unit and there is a touch of menace to their swagger. They are clearly the wise guys...
