All prints are on 315gsm Hahnemühle photo rag Baryta paper and varnished after processing to give both endurance and sheen. Each is signed, dated and numbered on the front. Price includes David Yarrow's custom black ash frame, white archival matting and protective UV acrylic. For unframed, $1,500 will be deducted from the price.
David Yarrow has built an unrivaled reputation for capturing the beauty of the planet’s remote landscapes, cultures and endangered animals. Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966, he is now an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer and Europe’s best selling wildlife photographer.
DAVID YARROW'S NARRATIVE:
"In my early career, I photographed competitive ski races around the world. At events such as the Olympics in Calgary and the World Ski Championships in Crans Montana, the downhills were the Blue Riband events and the Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel and the Lauberhorn in Wengen, classic one off downhill races, were regular fixtures in my January calendar.
But the goal on those occasions was to take tight action pictures of the winning skier, not necessarily
to evoke a sense of place. It was a genuine test of camera skills not only because of the speed of the racers but also the accompanying weather conditions. I had my successes and I had my failures, but the photographs often lost immediate relevance as the press would simply look forward to the next race rather than dwelling on the last one.
35 years later my goal for this project was to employ a broader narrative and play on a sense of scale and contrast; the constant grandeur of our planet against the ephemeral skier. I wanted to tell a tale of man and mountain, where the former is dwarfed by the latter and in so doing, I could hopefully glorify both. The skier could have a degree of anonymity as he was just part of the story, not the whole story.
I know my ski courses and had my mind set on this spot on the famous Val Gardena downhill in the Dolomites. The first jump, a third of the way down the course, gave me the chance to have a skier flying through the thin alpine air with the region’s highest mountain offering the most grand of backdrops.
I had great fortune with the heavy snowfall the night before the race, as it transformed the whole amphitheatre, including the imposing rock face, into a fresh winter wonderland.
Jared Goldberg - a member of the US ski team and a resident of Salt Lake City, Utah - is the skier in this image. He finished in the top 10 that stunning day in Val Gardena. I am in awe of his bravery, as I am with all downhill racers. They put life and limb on the line in their 100 mph journey .
In my mind, the TV tower and the airplane add to the narrative as they serve to add modernity and scale, and in so doing, highlight the magnificence of the timeless mountains.

David Yarrow
David Yarrow, born 1966 in Scotland, took up photography at an early age, as a 20-year-old he found himself working as a photographer for The London Times on the pitch at the World Cup Final in Mexico City. On that day, he took the sensationalized picture of Diego Maradona holding the World Cup and, as a result, was subsequently asked to cover the Olympics and numerous other high profile sporting events.
Many years later, Yarrow established himself as a fine art photographer by documenting the natural world from new perspectives and recent years have been career-defining for his mark on the world of contemporary fine art photography.
Yarrow’s evocative and immersive photography of life on earth is most distinctive and has earned him an ever-growing following among art collectors and celebrities. His distinct large monochrome images made in Los Angeles are on display in leading galleries and museums across Europe and North America. Yarrow is now recognized as one of the best-selling fine art photographers in the world and his limited edition works regularly sell at high prices at Sotheby’s and other auction houses.
In September 2019, Rizzoli published their second book by Yarrow, with a personal foreword written by global NFL star Tom Brady and thoughtful afterword written by American cultural icon and supermodel Cindy Crawford. All royalties from the book have been donated to conservation charities Tusk in the UK and WildAid in the US.
Yarrow's position in the industry has been rewarded with a wide range of advisory and ambassadorial roles. He is an ambassador for WildArk and The Kevin Richardson Foundation and is the European ambassador for Nikon. Yarrow has been integral to Nikon's most anticipated camera release of the last decade. In December 2017, he shot LVMH’s latest “Don’t Crack Under Pressure” campaign with Cara Delevingne. In January 2019, he was appointed as a global ambassador for UBS. In the spring of 2020, Yarrow was appointed a global ambassador for Best Buddies – one of America’s most established children’s charities.
Yarrow became an ambassador for the African Community and Conservation Foundation and presented his work in the Endangered Rangers virtual fundraiser. At the start of 2020, Yarrow was in Australia documenting the devastating bush fires that have destroyed communities, wildlife and wildlands. Using the striking images that he captured of the effects of the fire, he launched the #KoalaComeback Campaign to support the recovery efforts in Australia. The campaign raised over $1.4 million, and as Yarrow continues to work for humanitarian causes, his steadfast determination continues to make positive change for the benefit of global awareness. Currently, Yarrow continues to create stunning imagery with lasting global impact and archival quality that speaks to his reverence for the art of photography in capturing the wonders of the world.

"Established in 1937, the Million Dollar Cowboy bar in Jackson, Wyoming is one of America’s landmark honky tonks. Its authentic western vibe draws hundreds of visitors a day and yet despite this fame, the joint retains a folksy charm. That is quite a trick. It is the epicentre of the Jackson Hole community and probably always will be.
Clint Eastwood has acted in the bar (Any Which Way You Can), Willie Nelson and Hank Williams Jr have sung there and I thought it was high time we filmed there. I was drawn to the ageless facade of the bar, with its retro neon lighting and famous rotating cowboy on horseback sign on the roof. My creative pondering never departed much from the premise that this backdrop offered a definitive sense of place and had to be paid homage to.
Neon lights don’t do themselves justice during the day, but as the bar is busy until closing, 365 days a year, shooting at night offered challenges. The solution was to film at 5.30 am and, on the morning of the shoot, this offered some bonuses as there was fresh snow and a temperature of 0°F. This extreme cold allowed the exhaust fumes from the Ford Bronco to add more drama to the set.
I think a few cowboys were left a little disappointed with the manner of the cowgirl’s departure in this tableau. To leave the bar alone is one thing, but to leave with a wolf must have been distressing for all her courters.
