Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966, he is now an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer and Europe’s best selling wildlife photographer. "Harry Goulding - a Durango sheepherder by trade - first set eyes on Monument Valley in 1923 and saw its potential and set up a small trading post. Little then happened as the stockmarket crashed in 1929 and America fell into the Great Depression. But in 1939, Goulding learned that a Hollywood Studio was looking for a location to shoot a major Southwestern movie. He persuaded a photographer - Josef Muench - to prepare a booklet of 10 x 8 contact prints of the most dramatic formations of Monument Valley such as the three sisters and Goulding took them to Hollywood and showed them to John Ford. Ford immediately agreed that Stagecoach should be filmed in Monument Valley and over the next 25 years he would shoot nine of his most influential films there. Thanks to Goulding, this extraordinary landscape became integral to the careers of both John Ford and John Wayne. In my scouting of this land of giant cathedrals of sand rose rock, I have been drawn to a section of the southern edge of what is now a protected tribal park. It is Navajo Reservation land. Here wind patterns in the desert are coupled with a vista from the book of Genesis. It is as grand and timeless as any landscape I know - the biblical equivalent of the modern-day river view in Chicago, with seven out of eight buildings removed. Being Navajo land, we could only film there with their approval and support. I want to thank the head of the local film commission - Bega Metzner - for her help and Navajo local Orville Sisco for securing the permit. We were met with cooperation and gratitude throughout our production by the Navajo. The lead complication was finding a practical way for the wagon to arrive at my chosen location. There are no roads here. But time was the antidote and the team used it well. As the world’s worst driver, my admiration could not be deeper. My goal was to play on a sense of heroic isolation and implicit transgression and in so doing hint at vulnerability. That, after all, was the story of the Wild West; danger lurked around every corner or in this case monolith. That is exactly why John Ford chose Monument Valley - it is a character in itself."

Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966, he is now an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer and Europe’s best selling wildlife photographer. "I have had the idea of this image in my mind for a couple of years. Looking through stills of John Ford’s iconic film, Stagecoach, there was one image from the filming in 1939 that popped up on my screen time and time again - the stagecoach moving right to left with the unmistakable monoliths of Monument Valley in the background. There is no indication as to whether John Wayne was inside the stagecoach, but that mattered little, this was the perfect visual in what many have described as the perfect western. The location of the old still from Stagecoach is on private land right on the Arizona/Utah border not far from the Monument Valley visitor centre and my production team secured permission to film there. It struck me, given the direction of travel was westerly, if we used a wagon as opposed to a stagecoach, we could use the first rays of light to dramatic effect as they diffract through the foreground content. The trick would then be to find a dip in the terrain which would allow for the monolith to pop out above the wagon and horses...

Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966, he is now an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer and Europe’s best selling wildlife photographer. "Developing a concept that ticks the boxes creatively and then executing that concept are emphatically two different jobs, which is why making a picture is a longer process than taking a picture. Many years ago, the exceptional work of British photographer Tim Flach, drew my attention to the hot springs of Myvatn in the north of Iceland. This remote area is geologically angry and in deep winter it is fairly inhospitable, but in the summer, it becomes something of a tourist resort for the local Icelandics and all too crowded for how we operate. We would always choose inhospitable over crowded. I have filmed here in the winter in the past, but struggled to do justice to the uniquely raw ecosystem. As always there is an element of knowing how to get it right by initially getting it hopelessly wrong. In particular, this is not a safe place without engaging locals, because the ground underneath, much like Yellowstone in Wyoming, is not to be taken for granted. To be brave and work close to the geysers needs permits and guides. But in 2022, we finally had our rewards. The weather plays such a big role in the field; no more so than up here at 66 degrees north where the Norse Gods granted my wish for strong winds and good light. It was the wind that amplified the trail of steam and allowed me to work a comfortable distance from the source without losing the effect. It was then up to me to work the strong late afternoon light to the best of my advantage. The end result is a strong image and certainly authentic. Its stripped back and visceral mood lives and breathes the wildest of Icelandic sagas. There are horse...

All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. 'The Lodge at Vail' centers around the famous model Alessandra Ambrosio standing next to a 1956 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing. A wolf is sticking its head out the car's door. The Model is wearing a 70s-inspired fur coat and boots and holding a ski set. An ode to the lodge's beginnings is in the background. The Lodge at Vail was the first proper hotel to operate in a resort that arrived at the Colorado ski party exceptionally late. The first stones of Vail were laid in 1962, making it the new kid on the block...
