Edward Feingersh
Marilyn Monroe behind the curtain, unique print of 1988 from original negative

1955

About the Item

This captivating black-and-white photograph offers a rare glimpse into the backstage life of Marilyn Monroe. Taken in the 1950s, the image shows Monroe adjusting her attire in front of a mirror, surrounded by her team. A man, holding a copy of Variety, stands in the foreground, seemingly engrossed in the newspaper, while the scene behind him unfolds. The multiple reflections in the mirror add a sense of depth and dimension to the image, while showcasing Monroe's iconic presence. The photograph captures the elegance and poise of one of Hollywood's greatest stars in a private, yet poised moment, behind the scenes of her public persona. Ed Feingersh photographed Marilyn Monroe for Redbook magazine in March 1955 for a story which would follow Monroe through her daily routine, the photography to be candid and shot without flash in available light. The photographs he made of her during the week March 24–30, 1955 as she prepares for two appearances; opening night of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Morosco Theatre and being fitted with a burlesque corset for her ride on a pink elephant at a charity event at Madison Square Garden. (from Wikipedia) This is a unique silver gelatine print, made in 1988 from the original negative.
