About the Item
The singer Melba Moore (b.1945) was born in Harlem, New York, to parents distinguished in music. In 1967, she began her performing career in the groundbreaking Broadway musical Hair. Jack Robinson photographed the twenty-six year old Moore on July 28, 1971, and when the article was published in a Vogue feature “People Are Talking About …” Moore was looking forward to touring the country before returning to New York with An Evening with Melba Moore at New York’s Philharmonic Hall. She speaks of stretching her range and vocal style and choosing the right examples, “go to the purest source, then with some intelligence and discipline see where your head and your heart will lead you”.
