Brian Griffin (born in 1948 in Birmingham) is widely acknowledged as one of the most prominent British photographers of his generation, constantly working on new materials and still pushing boundaries of contemporary photography. He is famous for his ground-breaking approach to portraiture from Iggy Pop to Kate Bush, and numerous high profile projects stretching from 'Work' in the 1980's to his project charting 'The Road to 2012', commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery. 'Work' went on to be awarded the Best Photography book in the World at the Barcelona Primavera Fotografica 1991 and The Life magazine used the photograph "A Broken Frame" on its front cover of a special supplement "The Greatest Photographs Of The 80's". Throughout his career, over twenty monographs of Griffin's work have been published, his work has been the subject of over fifty international solo exhibitions and is held in institutional collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; the Arts Council of Great Britain, London; the British Council, London; the National Portrait Gallery, London; the Museum Folkwang, Essen; the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery; the Art Museum Reykjavík, Iceland; the Mast Foundation, Bologna; and the Museu da Imagem, Braga, Portugal. In 2009, Brian Griffin became the patron of FORMAT Festival and in 2013 he received the Centenary Medal from the Royal Photographic Society in recognition of a lifetime achievement in photography. ***
“I think that Brian is one of the most interesting portrait photographers ever. His portrait photography belongs to another time. Portrait photography today is like so simple, so straightforward, so it seems that all photography portraits are alike. Brian is different and Brian has a craziness in him – a craziness in a way to see the world, and intensity that belongs only to him.”
– Francois Hébel, Director, Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson (present), Director, Les Rencontres d’Arles (1986-1987, 2001-2014). /As quoted in the documentary by Michael Prince; The Surreal Lives of Brian Griffin, 2018/

Luciano Pavarotti (Edition of 100) - 20"x24"
By Dan Springer
Located in New York, NY
This 2013 fine art print caricature, is legend opera star Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007), the most commercially successful tenor of all time, holding the honorific title "King of the High Cs". This caricature was created by artist Dan Springer and shows the maestro singing, mouth wide open, hitting the highest notes in Opera on a Red-Maroon. It was mastered from the original drawing in high resolution digital format and reproduced in a numbered-edition series, on fine art archival pigment paper. Dan’s focus is to elevate the personalities of iconic celebrities by using exaggerations of some of their physical characteristics and also an oversimplification of others.
Dan Springer states:
“There’s the character and then the caricature. If it’s a celebrity, there’s always a persona that’s a caricature outside of who the celebrity is but in different layers. My goal is to bring out those layers of the character, in a caricature format that is defined by their facial image and their eccentricities.”
Dan Springer received his formal art training at the Rhode Island School of Design where he received his BFA in Illustration in 1991. Since then, he has done freelance illustration for various publications including "The New York Times", "The Village Voice", and "Avenue" magazine. He started his fine art career in 1996 when he founded the "4E Gallery" in Tribeca where he and his partner showed various artists, as well as their own work every month. He also showed at numerous galleries and clubs, including the "Ace Gallery", the "Gershwin Gallery", "The Tunnel" and "Faces and Names", (161 W. 54th St.), and "Rumours" (8th Ave. & 55th St.) where he has a permanent exhibition. He has also done live caricatures at "Faces and Names" since they opened in 1997. He has worked as a caricature artist since 1991, including work at Six Flags...
