Artist Bio:
Charlie Ahearn, best known as the director of the classic hip-hop film Wild Style (1982), arrived in New York in 1973 to attend the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program. Later he was joined by his twin brother, John Ahearn, and they became part of the artists' group Colab (aka Collaborative Projects, Inc).
Ahearn showed his early films in an abandoned Time Square massage parlour that Colab had taken over on the corner of 7th Avenue and 41st Street (where Ahearn also lived from 1981 to 1993). Colab's 1981 art show - titled, "The Times Square Show" - is famous for introducing Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring among many others. In 1982, Ahearn directed Wild Style - universally hailed as the first hip-hop movie. Wild Style immortalized the birth of an underground hip-hop scene changing the face of music, fashion, art & popular culture forever.

Sexy Golden Fruit celebrates the classic symbolism linked to food in a gold version and transforms the art of good food into pop art. The images of the Sexy Golden Fruit project are inspired by classic art with pop-style interpretations of fresh fruit and vegetables painted in gold. The classic iconography of the “natura morta” has always been a stratagem to deal with the sexual and sentimental sphere: in fact, since the Middle Ages, we have numerous examples in history of the erotic life through the use of food which, today as then, is an element of everyday life. Catullus also wrote innumerable poems on food as a metaphor for the sexual sphere. A perfect cultural liaison: elements of the artistic and culinary tradition, intrinsic to a latent and profoundly pulsating feeling in living within each one of us "."Sexy Golden Fruit Series", where "the iconographic references are a mere starting point for a desecration practised paradoxically by painting the fruits in gold, with an overbearing allusion to the sexual metaphor that belongs since antiquity to the painting genre. Color photography evokes emotion that can bring a viewer into the scene. It can transport one to faraway places or back into the past.
The first color photograph, taken in 1861, was more of an exercise in science than art. Photographer Thomas Sutton and physicist James Clerk Maxwell used three separate exposures of a tartan ribbon — filtered through red, green and blue — and composited them into a single image, resulting in the first multicolor representation of an object.
Before this innovation, photographs were often tinted by hand. By the 1890s, color photography processes were introduced based on that 1860s experiment. In the early 20th century, autochromes brought color photography to a commercial audience.
Now color photography is widely available, with these historic photographs documenting moments and scenes that are still vivid generations later.
