About the Item

"And the Party Never Ends" Monument Valley, Utah, USA - 2022 Available Sizes (Framed Size) Large: 71” x 95” / Edition of 12 Standard: 52” x 68” / Edition of 12 This work is sourced directly from the artist. Framed Digital Pigment Print on Archival 315gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta Paper Hand-signed by artist with Certificate of Authenticity Such is the grandeur and scale of Monument Valley that at almost every corner there is something of a sensory overload. The amphitheatre, for all its majesty, also has a sense of incompleteness, as if God the creator got a little bored of building the city and moved on to other projects. The result is an architectural canvas unlike any other in the world. I knew one angle where I could compress distance and fill one of the gaps in this city of monoliths with foreground detail. We had an old VW camper van on set and somehow or other we managed to drive it to the predetermined horizon not far from where John Wayne was filmed in The Searchers. There was a distinct slope on this patch of ground and I warmed to the impact it had on the frame. It was then up to the girls. I fancy they had enjoyed a few tequilas on the road up from the wonderfully named Mexican Hat and there were no inhibitions. They didn’t need to act; they were already very much in the prescribed hippy vibe. When we woke up that day, I had no idea that we would end the shoot with an image like this. I love it because it is uplifting and fun. It speaks to me as a portrait of Americana - the land of carefree road trips. The road goes on forever and the party never ends. About David Yarrow David Yarrow was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966. He took up photography at an early age and as a 20-year-old found himself working as a photographer for The London Times on the pitch at the World Cup Final in Mexico City. On that day, David took the famous picture of Diego Maradona holding the World Cup and, as a result, was subsequently asked to cover the Olympics and numerous other sporting events. Many years later David established himself as a fine art photographer by documenting the natural world from new perspectives and the last nine years have been career-defining. David’s evocative and immersive photography of life on earth is most distinctive and has earned him an ever-growing following amongst art collectors. His large monochrome images made in Los Angeles are on display in leading galleries and museums across Europe and North America. He is now recognised as one of the best-selling fine art photographers in the world and his limited edition works regularly sell at high prices at Sotheby’s and other auction houses.

Living Without Boarders Black and White Cowboy on Horse Photo taken in Mexico

Located in Greenwich, CT
Framed Digital Pigment Print on Archival 315gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta Paper Mexico / USA, 2020 I took this photograph of the legendary West Texas cowboy - Ty Mitchell - on a sandbank on the Rio Grande. Ty stands 6ft 5” tall and my general assessment is that not much fazes this guy. Meanwhile, the location is about as good as it gets and is rather wonderfully named Contraband Creek. I was standing in Mexico and 20 yards across the river was the US. Every time I walked knee deep across the river to change a lens or camera, I entered America and then on my return I re-entered Mexico. I think I actually entered America four times in a morning - all rather surreal with this talk of a wall. I would like to thank the US Border Patrol...

"Chief" American Indian Photographed in Wyoming Devil's Tower

Located in Greenwich, CT
"Chief" Wyoming, USA 2020 Large: 71" x 96” Edition of 12 Standard: 52" x 69" Edition of 12 This work is sourced directly from the artist. Framed Digital Pigment Print on Archival 315gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta Paper Hand-signed by artist with Certificate of Authenticity Over the last few weeks we have quietly been photographing senior Native Americans against the backdrop of quintessential and emblematic American vistas.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Whilst we will be releasing some of the series in the run up to the Presidential Election, this is not an overtly political statement from us. We know that Native Americans have long had a leaning toward the Democratic Party, but we took this assignment on because it is relevant, not to be political.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ There is wide recognition now that Christopher Columbus did not discover America in 1492 and the events in Minneapolis have accelerated the debate on the possibility of institutionalised racism in the teaching of American history. This is not a discussion we want to fully engage in - as we are ill equipped to add value, but I do want to celebrate some of the tribal elders I have had the fortune to encounter in the last month. Their pride, manners, grace and humility have been humbling. We have made new friends in the North.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ For this project we worked with Chief John Spotted Tail, the great-great-grandson of the fabled Lakota chief Spotted Tail. We spent two days with him in Northern Wyoming and he was so excited to wear the headpiece that only the most senior Native American chiefs like him can wear. His attire was emphatically his decision not ours. Their heritage is integral to their souls.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The ground in front of Devils Tower...
