About the Item

The Rio Grande West Texas, TX - 2023 Archival Pigment Print on 315gsm Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta Paper Edition Size: 12 Available sizes: Standard Image Size: 37" x 52" Framed Size: 52" x 67" Large Image Size: 56" x 79" Framed Size: 71" x 94" Artist Statement: This photograph, taken just after sunrise on the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park, will hopefully be recognised as having all my trademarks. Whilst I dread being categorised by subject matter, I think there is a consistency in the execution and in the printing. There is a package that I try and deliver. In the field with horses, I like to work low down, close and head on with the subject and if possible, it is helpful to have something in the frame: dust; snow; rain or water, that when frozen, energises the image or at the very least brings in another character for free. Ryan Marshall - who played a cameo role in Taylor Sheridan’s 1883 - has everything I look for in a West Texas cowboy. His horse skills are extraordinary, he always has a look for sure and he is mannered and professional. He is a delight to spend time with, something so true of cowboys in general in Texas. There is an authenticity and an uncluttered conscience that I warm to. He may struggle to find comfort at the Met Gala in New York City, but I think that’s a compliment. The last big picture we released of Ryan was a few years back in Marfa, Texas and it is no longer available. I hope the sequel also resonates in Texas and beyond. - David Yarrow

Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966, he is now an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer and Europe’s best selling wildlife photographer. "It is integral to my style of animal portraiture to obsess on the lead characteristics of the subject and then look to magnify those characteristics. I always want a Champions League model, not a Third Division player. When I photograph African elephants, for instance, I work in Kenya which boasts the biggest, most magnificent elephants in the world. I would never go to Botswana to photograph an elephant - they are smaller than their East African cousins. With cowboys, I am drawn to the great state of Texas - where the most authentic, uncompromising, working cowboys...

Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966, he is now an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer and Europe’s best selling wildlife photographer. "The mythical cowboy, whose image has been shaped by history, fiction and folklore, is unquestionably America’s predominant symbolic native son. For many people across the world, a cowboy is the most American thing they can think of. For that we should be thankful. Much better this noun than a Big Mac...

Red Dead - Grim cowboy riding on a horse in front of a steaming train wild west
By David Yarrow
Located in Vienna, AT
Available in two sizes. High-end framing on request. Limited edition of 12. Each artwork is done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. "My cowboy worked as a cowboy extra and handler in another Taylor Sheridan series - 1883 - and it is easy to see why he and Sam Elliott got along. This one split second image caught my notice straight away as there is an anonymity to his face. We don’t need to see his eyes, because this is not a story about him per se, it is a story about the loosely governed wild west, where cowboys like him often made a living from doing shady things. He is playing to a genre before he is playing himself." - David Yarrow on "Red Dead...
