This photograph features 2 cartridges with text along the bottom reading, "Columbine High School, Columbine, Colorado, April 20, 1999, 9mm and 12 gauge shotgun cartridge, 13 killed" This photograph is part of Don Netzer's series, The Lethal Beauty of Violence, which features portraits of cartridges from specific mass shootings in American history.
Don Netzer is a Commercial photographer who lives in Dallas Texas. He opened his photography studio in 1984 and continues in business today. After completing his military service in 1965 he received his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army 5th Infantry Division, 5th Military Police Company at the rank of Specialist 4th class. He then attended The University of North Texas and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree In Advertising Design. After graduation he worked for several years at Tracy-Locke Inc. Dallas’s premier advertising agencies at the time. He later returned to The University of North Texas to study photography, and was a graduate assistant teacher of photography for two years. Don graduated from UNT with a Masters Degree in Photography, and a minor in Printmaking in 1975.
