Haldeman, a native of The Netherlands who was raised in Montreal, currently resides in Malibu, California. It was here that she founded MJH Photography, a studio specializing in portraiture. Haldeman's artistic journey began with a deep interest in art history and fine art photography, which she pursued at UCLA under the mentorship of the renowned photographer Robert Heinecken. During her time at UCLA, Haldeman honed her craft, blending the theoretical aspects of art with the practical techniques of photography. Initially drawn to the natural world, Haldeman focused her lens on the ocean, capturing its abstract forms through the lens of fine art photography. The fluidity and ever-changing nature of the sea inspired her to explore its many textures and movements, creating a series of images that conveyed both the power and subtlety of the ocean. These works, marked by their abstraction and minimalism, became a significant part of her early portfolio. As Haldeman’s practice evolved, her fascination with abstraction expanded into the realm of architecture. She became captivated by the geometry, lines, and patterns that emerge in urban environments. The complex interplay of light, shadow, and form within cityscapes and built structures became her new focus. This shift toward the urban landscape allowed Haldeman to explore how the structures we build can also possess the same abstract qualities as the natural world, where symmetry and chaos coexist. Today, her work continues to reflect this fusion of organic and constructed forms, with an ever-deepening exploration of how abstraction transcends both nature and design. Through MJH Photography, Haldeman’s portfolio showcases not only her technical skill but also her ability to see beauty in unexpected places—whether in a portrait or an architectural detail.
