About the Item

40 x 60 inch mineral ink print, framed Signed on label verso Edition 5 Miguel Ángel García was born in Madrid in 1952, and currently lives and works in Cantabria, Spain. A visual artist with training in both economics and agricultural design, his work strives to raise awareness of social, cultural and environmental issues. in his "Independencias" project in 2012, photographing European capital cities, and in his later New York City work, each panoramic view is taken from a culturally symbolic watchtower in the city. García then digitally paints the images, initially blanketing them in white, as if seen through a snow storm. This is followed by selective application of red pigment, to highlight repeating architectural details, such as smoke stacks in Paris, skylights in Berlin and London, chimneys in Vienna and Stockholm, and the iconic water towers of New York City. Through this process, García constructs unknown maps of cities we thought we knew so well. García has exhibited widely in Europe and South America, with over 30 one-person shows and 15 group exhibitions in the past 8 years. His photographs have been presented at Paris Photo, Madrid Photo and the Hot Art Fair in Basel. His work is also held in corporate collections, including the Fidelity Corporate Art Collection (UK), and many private collections in Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, France and the United States.
