About the Item

Josephine Baker, 2018 by Paloma Castello Digital photographs on glossy pearlescent paper 47.2 x 33 inches Edition 1 /3 + 1AP unframed 2018 _______________________ Paloma Castello born 1988 Bogotá, Colombia. Paloma Casteloo uses her work to bring life or a different narrative to an object’s past. She's interested in playing with memory and relating it to the present, creating an atmosphere between reality and fiction. Her family and social background have a powerful influence on her work. Castello grew up surrounded with objects and anecdotes inherited from her ancestors that inspire endless surreal stories. The artist's work emerges from these experiences; they are evidence of her “auto-fiction”. "Paloma Castello presents to us a nostalgia filled body of work. The collection represents the soul of her proposal: inherited objects, discovered or found that have become the tip of the iceberg of her past. These are elements she collects, recollects and then classifies following a method that frames her anachronic attitude that proves as evidence of the youth of her art. She also demonstrates that the experimentations on herself are common in an artist who’s just beginning her career. Without a doubt, this resource, valid and true becomes the road that determines the experimental character of the author.

Composed of fifteen unpublished works, created in 2018, this is his most political content production ever presented. As a result of his cultivated critical eye, the photographer sheds light on the historical exclusion of the Brazilian population in decision-making processes in the country. Dramatically plunged into an endless political and economic crisis, Brazil finds itself in a chaotic situation. In this context, Guilherme Licurgo's new series gains even more relevance with the proximity of the presidential elections, taking as its starting point the widespread sense of absence of dialogue between the citizens and government, even more, sensitive in this period. In the photographer's words: “'Manifesto' is the dialectic between the individual and the collective. A representation of thoughts based on the maxims of great references in Sociology and Philosophy that unfold around me, here and now. ” From references by classical thinkers and philosophers such as Hegel and Émile Durkheim to contemporaries Zygmunt Bauman and Slavoj...

  • Double Helix, Contemporary Color Photography, Oversized Art Framed
    By Roberta Fineberg
    Located in New york, NY
For Double Helix, 2021 Roberta Fineberg is inspired by abstract painting. The artist explores the concept of infinite possibilities. Appealing to RF’s desire to alternate between the concrete and the abstract, the artist selects a theme of the eternal feminine, a female swimmer, repeated to affect a modern mandala: A swimmer moves, floats in aqua-marine waters through a kaleidoscopic view. A single image flipped and rotated in 16 quadrants forms a collage on movement, space, time, rhythm, and color. The contemporary color photograph is 40” x 60” an archival pigment print mounted on dibond with plexi face mount. The art is signed, dated, titled on verso (back of work) by the artist. Edition of 5. 2- a/p's. Provenance: Private Collector *** Artist's Bio: As a photographer and visual artist, Roberta Fineberg (RF) focuses on the themes of serendipity, inventiveness, and development of ideas for her photography, video, installations, works on paper, and painting. Drawn to experimentation, she explores diverse mediums and subjects such as the ephemeral (butterfly series), stolen moments (documentary work), play, timelessness, the enduring, and significance of matter. In July 2022, Roberta Fineberg’s Double Helix was included in a Sotheby’s auction in New York City and exhibited in the preview show Contemporary Discoveries. Selected exhibitions include: Time Gallery New York (2022), Phyllis Harriman Gallery New York studio shows (2022; 2020), CADAF online art fair (2020), Gallery122 New York pop-up group...
