In Strange Love, Stefanie Schneider turns the aftermath of love into visual poetry. Shot entirely on expired Polaroid film and Super-8 footage, this body of work captures the psychological landscape of unrequited love—where memory becomes artifact and absence takes on a physical form.
At the heart of the series is a vanished relationship, refracted through shifting layers of memory, imagination, and emotional truth. Her former lover appears not as one fixed identity, but as a fragmented figure—experienced differently by the artist, by himself, and by others. Each frame becomes a vessel for these multiple, often contradictory versions.
Photographs, film stills, and texts converge in Schneider’s signature aesthetic: hazy, sun-bleached, and chemically unpredictable. These are not documents of a past love—they are embodiments of its ghost. The experience of “not-there-ness” becomes the subject itself.
In Strange Love, Schneider explores how emotion resists chronology, how feelings outrun fact. The result is a series of works that feel both personal and universal—ephemeral moments made permanent, yet still flickering with mystery.
