About the Item
Flamingos Reflecting in Water, Close-up, photographed by Tim Flach.
All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request.
All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery.
Flach is best known for photographing animals in a studio setting, treating them as portrait subjects in a way typically reserved for humans. His use of controlled lighting and backdrops isolates the subject, highlighting texture, expression, and emotion.
This approach draws parallels between animal and human emotions, challenging viewers to see animals as sentient beings. Flach’s work often highlights biodiversity and conservation issues.
He collaborates with scientists and conservation groups to raise awareness about endangered species and environmental degradation.
His images are not just beautiful but meant to provoke thought and action.
The British artist Tim Flach is one of the most world-famous photographers, best known for his conceptual approach to portraits of animals, and the originality that he brings while capturing their behaviour and characteristics.
In a place much more familiar from portraits of people and fashion photography, the animals become the subject of Flach’s highly beautiful, detailed and intimate style, in which imagery of other species resonates with human poses and expressions.

Tim Flach
Tim Flach is a graduate of St. Martins School of Art where he studied Photography & Painted Structures. Having spent the last twenty years as a highly successful advertising photographer working with clients such as Adidas, Cirque du Soleil, Jaguar and Sony, Flach has more recently been focusing on his own personal work. Flach has five main bodies of works which cover the span of the animal kingdom. Starting in 2008 with Equus, Flach looked at the family of equine animalia from Ass to Zebra. In his second publication, Dog Gods, Flach examined the ever evolving relationship between humans and dog through the diversity of dog breeds. In 2021, Flach released More Than Human, an exploration of the ethical, scientific, and political arguments that structure our relationship to the natural world. In Evolution (2013), Flach expanded his approach to marine life with an anthology of life from aquatic to land. Endangered (2017) contrasted a visual approach with a narrative bent, emphasising the harsh nature of reality faced by species on the verge of extinction. Birds (2019) begins with the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur connecting us to the origin of modern birds. Flach followed this with an exploration of the evolution of the bird as we know it today, including flightless birds and more particular birds like hummingbirds. Flach is a Senior Research Fellow (Artist in Residence) at the Centre of Eudaimonia and Human Flourishing at Linacre College, Oxford. He also serves as President of Association of Photographers.

Underwater Study #2615 - Underwater Portrait in Pink, Fine Art Photography, 2005

Underwater Study #2615 - Model dressed in pink and orange butterfly Dress underwater, photographed by Howard Schatz for his Series Underwater Studies in 2005.

Howard Schatz’s Underwater Study #2615 presents a striking and surreal portrayal of underwater beauty and fashion. The photograph features a model floating gracefully beneath the surface, adorned in a vibrant pink and orange flower dress. A giant orange butterfly, perched at the cleavage, adds an element of whimsical extravagance. The model holds her skirt down as she floats, her face turned towards the camera with bright, dramatic makeup, yet her gaze is directed downward, creating a sense of introspection. The entirely black background contrasts sharply with the vivid colors of the dress and butterfly, while the surrounding air bubbles reflect light, adding a subtle sparkle to the scene. Schatz’s expert lighting and composition turn this underwater moment into a mesmerizing visual spectacle, blending high fashion with the ethereal beauty of the aquatic environment. Underwater Study #2615 invites viewers to immerse themselves in a world where elegance meets the surreal, captured in a moment of enchanting stillness.
Opulent flower crowns, intertwined bodies, and decadent dinners hosted in underwater worlds – Howard Schatz’s imagery is marked by grandeur and abundance. Transgressing genres and motives, Schatz approaches portraits, nature photography, and the moving body in all its forms with an outburst of passion and energy. Liquid colors, extravagant perspectives, and daring details surprise the onlooker at every corner. Succulent vegetation and airy fabrics bleed into magical compositions. Howard Schatz is an award-winning photographer living in New York City and widely exhibited worldwide. With twenty books of photographs to his credit, Schatz's wide-ranging artistic oeuvre includes studies of actors, dancers, athletes, portraiture, and a world of underwater imagery. His photographs have appeared in countless magazines around the globe, including a running series in Vanity Fair, along with the covers of TIME, Sports Illustrated, US News...

The soft haze of dusk, I waded out into the Ría Lagartos in Mexico and trained my lens on a trio of flamingos. Their long necks curved as they peered into the shallows stained pink by the setting sun, searching for the brine shrimp that gives them their bright, coral coloring. Ría Lagartos translates to Alligator River, although this incredibly rich estuary is neither a river nor does it have a single alligator. Instead, it is a sweeping, coastal wetland home to crocodiles and flocks of flamingos.
