About the Item

Image: Abandoned hospital. Tubmanberg, Domi County. Tim Hetherington photographed the experience of war from the perspective of the individual. During the Liberian Civil War, Hetherington photographed people struggling to survive their new realities on both sides of the war. His four years in Liberia resulted in a series of photographs, the film, "Liberia: An Uncivil War," and an execution order from then-President Charles Taylor. Through his photographs, writing and films, Tim Hetherington gave us new ways to look at and think about human suffering and war. Tim was tragically killed on April 20, 2011, while photographing and filming the conflict in Libya.
