Whether it is through images that evoke a tourist’s snapshot, capture the frenetic and spiritual energy found in the late-night raves of Israel’s youth, or display the horrific realities found under the fluorescents of a hospital trauma room, Ganihar’s wide-ranging oeuvre attempts to capture life in all its various lights. From his series Into the Light-New Work from Israel, Holy Morning #2 is an abstract color photograph reminiscent of Color Field paintings from the 1940’s and 50’s in the deep shades of red, burgundy, yellow and oranges. Completely unaltered by digital processes, this body of work is a further exploration of the organic possibilities of Ganihar’s chosen medium. Light is the filter through which the images get transformed to become immersive, spiritual and contemplative photographs that make the core of Tomer Ganihar’s aesthetic.

Born in Tel Aviv 1970, Tomer Ganihar is a self-taught artist. He was introduced to photography during his service time with the Israeli Army. Exploring, sculpting and immortalizing light, his work brings to life a way of looking at photography that is lyrical and sensitive.
