This work is offered by CLAMP in New York City. David Wojnarowicz (1954–1992) was an American artist, writer, and activist whose work spanned multiple media, including painting, photography, film, and performance art. Emerging from the East Village art scene in New York City during the 1980s, Wojnarowicz became known for his raw, politically charged work, often addressing issues such as AIDS, sexuality, and the marginalization of queer communities. His art was deeply autobiographical, reflecting his experiences as a gay man living with HIV/AIDS during a time of widespread indifference and hostility toward the epidemic. A vocal critic of governmental neglect and censorship, Wojnarowicz became a prominent figure in the ACT UP movement, which fought for AIDS awareness and policy reform. His visual and written work explored themes of identity, loss, and survival, confronting social injustices with urgency and passion. Wojnarowicz’s legacy endures as a symbol of defiance, art activism, and the personal and political struggles of the AIDS crisis.

Joel and Lower Baldonell House, Dublin, 1910
By McDermott & McGough
Located in New York, NY
Platinum palladium print (Edition of 25) Signed, titled, dated, and numbered in pencil, verso This artwork is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. David McDermott was born in 1952 in Hollywood, California. He studied at Syracuse University, New York from 1970 to 1974. Peter McGough was born in 1958 in Syracuse, and studied at the same university in 1976. Their paths never crossed until they both moved to New York City some years later and started their artistic collaboration in 1980. Their photography involves appropriating images and objects from the late 19th century to the mid 20th century, as well as projecting an image of themselves as gentlemen, posing as erudite, impertinent characters. During the 1980s, McDermott & McGough dressed, lived, and worked as artists and “men about town,” circa 1900-1928: they wore top hats and detachable collars, and converted a townhouse on Avenue C in New York City’s East Village...
