About the Item

Claus Goedicke (German) Ax (Some Things Series) Archival Pigment Print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Year: 2013 Size: 23.38 x 16.53 on 24.4 x 17.32 inches (59.4 x 42 on 62 x 44 cm) Framed: 23.6 x 20.4 inches Edition: 11 of 17 + 4 A.P. Signed: On Verso COA provided Classical still-life painting has long encouraged us to explore the meaning behind the objects depicted. However, in the modern era, this interpretive aspect has taken a backseat, with still life now focusing more on aesthetic explorations—examining the relationship between space and plane, form and color. Claus Goedicke’s work is firmly rooted in this modern tradition. Balancing between object photography and still life, he merges the technical capabilities of photography with the compositional possibilities of painting. Additionally, he reinterprets the visual language of advertising into his own distinctive style. Through color photography, Goedicke explores the relationships between forms and space, lines and volume, images and reflections, as well as the interplay of light and shadow. His work also delves into the expressive power of color contrasts and harmonies. In Goedicke’s large-format photographs, everyday objects—like a carrot, a used dishrag, or a blood unit—take center stage, placed on familiar yet undefined surfaces. This focus on isolated, mundane items offers an unexpectedly intimate perspective, forcing us to see them in a way we never have before, both in their entirety and in minute detail. We are confronted with our own understanding of these objects, our relationship to them, and the memories and associations they evoke. These simple items, when portrayed in such a manner, invite us to reflect on their material presence, symbolic meaning, and personal significance. #ClausGoedicke #StillLifePhotography #ContemporaryArt #ObjectPhotography #ColorPhotography #AestheticExploration #VisualArt #EverydayObjects #ModernStillLife #PhotographicArt #ArtAndComposition #ArtisticReflection #FineArtPhotography #SymbolicArt #CreativePhotography #VisualIdioms #ArtInDetail #PhotographyAndPainting #LightAndShadow #ArtisticPerspective
