About the Item

Desert Flight, a dynamic shoot of a zebra in motion, scenic, idyllic, black and white photography, photographed by David Yarrow. All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. David Yarrow explains his creative process as follows: "In my view, the zebra is the most difficult animal in Africa to photograph well, especially when it’s on the move. There are two main reasons for this. First, zebras are notoriously skittish; they tend to bolt long before a photographer has had the chance to find a compelling composition. Second, their movement can be awkward—more legs, tail, and rear end than elegance. There’s often little in the way of grace. Even static portraits of zebras require careful composition. Their stripes must be arranged with the intent to hold attention. The world doesn’t need another flat, front-on zebra shot taken with a long lens—those are visual pulp. But in this image, there is nothing awkward about the zebra’s movement. They can certainly move—and fast. I was lying flat in the scorching dirt to get the right perspective; no other angle would do. The laundry bill was a small price to pay. For those with an eye for photographic history, the image may carry extra resonance. It was an early photograph, after all, that first proved a horse lifts all four hooves off the ground when it runs. The same, as this frame confirms, holds true for the zebra." David Yarrow is a British fine art photographer and one of the world's most spectacular and best-selling nature photographers. Visual storytelling is his craft, and large-format monochrome prints are his medium. Through elaborately staged settings, Yarrow conjures the magic of the great American history, from the Wild West to Route 66. In his wildlife photography, he captures the planet's beauty. Majestic lions, sleek panthers, and free-roaming buffalo populate his works, trumped only by the female bombshells Yarrow places beside them. While highlighting the untamed side of supermodels such as Cara Delevingne or Cindy Crawford, Yarrow portrays the wild beasts in the most human way possible.
