Karen Tweedy-Holmes is an artist based in New York City whose work largely focuses upon portraiture of human beings and wild and domestic animals, in addition to the landscapes of the desert Southwest. Her images of the male nude were exhibited extensively to critical acclaim in the 1970s, and are among the first art photographs of this subject by an American woman. Tweedy-Holmes has been awarded grants from the Mindlin Foundation, and her work has been published in many periodicals and newspapers including Popular Photography, Infinity, Art in America, Time, National Geographic, Geo, Animals, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, Jazz Times, Dance, Newsweek, B&W Magazine, Nature, and The Sun. Tweedy-Holmes’ photographs have been exhibited widely, and her work is represented in numerous museum collections, including the International Center of Photography, New York City; the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, New York City; the Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe; the Akron Museum of Art, Ohio; and The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.
