About the Item

Skyline by Keith Carter is a sepia toned archival pigment print, featuring a section of buildings and skyscrapers in New York City. Image size: 16 x 16 in. Paper size: 22 x 17 in. Edition 2/25 Signed, titled, dated and numbered in black ink on print verso. Keith Carter is an American photographer who is known for his dreamlike black and white photographs of the figure, animals, and meaningful objects. He began photographing new and unknown realities using East Texas natives as subjects. This population and background setting spoke to the folklore, religious, and cultural motifs Carter was visually exploring. Since his start in Texas, his work continues to push imaginative realms while reaching prestigious artistic and technical status. In 1970, Carter earned a Business Management degree from Lamar University and began his career as a commercial photographer while working on personal projects. These personal projects have become a strong and highly sought after collection that have become twelve published monographs. Carter currently teaches photography at Lamar University as a Distinguished Faculty Lecturer. He travels worldwide providing photography lectures and workshops for artists. Carter’s fine art photography collections have made him the recipient of an array of awards such as the 2009 Texas Medal of Arts, 2009 Artist of the Year presented by the Art League Houston and, in 1991 the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University presented Carter with the Lange-Taylor Prize. His work has also been featured in print, online publications, television, and film. In 2006, the Anthropy Arts in New York filmed a documentary about Carter’s photographic work, and in 1997 CBS made an art segment on Carter’s work for public television. He has extensively exhibited his work throughout the world and participated in over 100 solo exhibitions. Permanent collections of his work can be found in many private and public institutions like the National Portrait Gallery, Museum of Fine Arts, Smithsonian, American Art Museum, Art Institute of Chicago and Texas State University.

Photographic paper incrusted in DIASEC plexiglass Edition 2/3 DIASEC is the registered trademark for the original method of face-mounting prints, such as photographs on acrylic sheet. The process was invented by Heinz Sovilla-Brulhart in 1969. Due to the light penetration and refraction of clear acrylic compared to normal glass, the colours are more brilliant and the image sharper than with standard glass in a picture frame. A DIASEC mounted is usually of a high gloss finish. Because the print is glued to the acrylic glazing, the result is a completely flat mount of the image. The print is also protected against ultraviolet (UV) light. DIASEC contains an UV light inhibitors to help protect the image from UV light. Bruno Paget...
